January 20th, 2025 ~ Monday (a very bad birthday for MLK and a dark day for America)
I would be remiss, if I didn’t point out that it didn’t dawn on me until just this moment that my word of/for the day isn’t posted until the NEXT day. So, this should have been yesterday’s post – which you would have seen on the 20th/not today, the 21st.
Sigh. Sometimes technology gets the better of me!
In any case – I had a vast array of words, a plethora, to choose from for today but far too many to choose just one … disgust, trepidation, angst, fealty, dictator, oligarchy … among just a few. And then there was … disembowelment cuz I’m still hoping for that alligator attack.
But I just can’t get away from idiocy, spinelessness, hypocrisy, adoration, and adulation.
I tuned in to today’s inauguration just in time to see him leaning against the dais like a sloth and his f’g smarmy face and creepy-whispery voice laying out his immediate intentions.
And so IT begins – again.
This country voted for a 34x convicted felon who is also liable for sexual assault, an adulterer, a lying pos who is cruel, narcissistic, incompetent, arrogant, racist, unethical, without a moral compass or any empathy, a rotten businessman, an insurrectionist who is in bed with dictators and who seemingly thinks he’s Putin’s bff. Who brags about everything, who lies constantly, who is hawking a variety of shit – including a bible (which he did not take his oath on!). Who is a profiteer, unstable, acts like a child, defames and insults everyone (unless they like him), has imitated oral sex with a microphone, is corrupt to his core, and has marveled about the size of Arnold Palmer’s penis. Just to name a few of his intolerable, indecent, disgusting, amoral, corrupt and atrocious actions and characterless traits. In short – he is unqualified and unfit.
And yet – today he became the 47th President of the United States. A comeback for a non-consecutive term in office that only Grover Cleveland had achieved.
And so it begins. Again. And it’s more sickening this time because we know what he’s done, what he plans to do, and what he (and his billionaire cronies) are capable of.
It’s one of those days when I am glad my dad isn’t around to see this. It would have caused him so much pain. My parents were big on volunteering. My mom volunteered with Girl Scouts and her church. But, my dad spent most of his life giving to others. He was involved with the (then called) Chicago Boys Club, Little League, Rotary, his church, and was a Park Commissioner for over 19 years. They were both about the “common/greater good”. There was nothing selfish about them.
And today, that’s all I can think about … that this country is so full of selfish people. People who make so much money that they don’t want to pay their share of taxes. People who voted in this obnoxious piece of scum because they thought the prices of eggs were too high. People who couldn’t “get behind” a woman candidate. People who didn’t pay attention to what was said and done. People who didn’t care enough to vote for democracy (and it’s not just a privilege and right – it’s a responsibility!). People who, for some reason, idolize this disgusting excuse for a human – thinking he will cure all ills and make their lives better and all their problems disappear. I could go on. But, it all makes me sick and I’ve already had my quota of Rolaids and Pepto for the day.
And to make things worse – many are calling him … “daddy”.
Good luck to all of us. Buckle up – it’s going to be a bumpy ride and I assure you it’s going to be ugly.
It is a very dark day for America. But, as Martin Luther King said on the eve of his assassination, “Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.”
There’s light at the end of this tunnel and there are stars. We have been asked to be the “keepers of the light” … hard to do in these times. But, if we don’t – who will?
And so it begins … again.
